Dear Square and Round Dance
Friends,
Plus/DBD Square Dance Club Caller - Ellen Spoon - 765-8736 Diamond + Dancers meet every 2nd and 4th Wednesday President-George / Elaine Simko-863-5332 Vice President-Terry Riddle Secretary-Linda Wood Treasurer-Cindy Riddle Historian-Betty Brasell Delegates-Charles Spoon/Wayland Horton Out with the old year and in with the New Year? No way, memories are tied back there with more to come. Diamond Plus Dancers shared the holiday spirit with a potluck dinner and gift swap. Square dancers are great cooks. Can that be in the fine print somewhere? Mischief abounded in the gift swap. Just what you always wanted and then--your friend took it away from you. The laughter is one of those memories.
Charles Spoon is celebrating his birthday March
6. Quick on the heels of that are birthdays for Rubie Horton, 3/15; Johnnie
Barton 3/24; and Barbara Gentry, 3/31. There are tears to be had too. Joann Stewart's
mother died January 25. Your many friends extend their sympathy. If you have family and friends who have yet to
discover the many positive things about square dancing, bring them to Solo's
Monday night beginner lessons. Try it--you''ll like it--is so true. Hoping to
see you dancing often. Diamond + Dancers

Vice President-Thelma Fowler Hub City appreciates all of you who came to our Anniversary Dance on January 16. We hope you had as good a time as we did and got your fill of spaghetti. Our thanks go to Mike Bramlett and Kathy Stevens who did a superb job. The winning ticket for our grand prize, a night’s stay at the Inn of the Mountain Gods in Ruidoso, NM plus a $50 gift card, was sold by Mike Hurst. A non square dancer, Lance Flud who works at Anthony Mechanical was the surprised winner. He was probably a little bit confused (to say the least) by the message left by Mike Bramlett during the dance attempting to inform him of his win. However, Mike Hurst finally talked to the winner on Monday and verified Mike Bramlett’s message. Lance was understandably delighted. Hub City president, Jim Dickens, has had his share of problems with his heart this past year, but at least they did find that he had one. It gets out of rhythm every now and then and has to be shocked back into rhythm. That is no easy procedure and could be dangerous as well as painful. Let’s keep him in our prayers. Hub City still dances every second and fourth Friday nights. We would love for you to come visit us. Hope to see you in a square soon. HCW
Garey Smith, Caller 1st, 3rd, 5th Fridays
We will be
having a Golden Plunger Dance on 02-19-10.

Secretary: June Lange Now that the Holidays have passed, the Fudge is gone and the Candy canes are just memories, we flipped the page of a calendar and said that one year ended and another began. Yet, with our own reasoning, we know that no year is complete within itself. There is an overlap--continuity. Therefore, the SOLO SQUARES greet you as the old year passed and we begin a new one together. We do so with thanksgiving and appreciation to our fellow square dancers that have blessed us with their presence and support at our dances and the opportunities we've had to dance together this past year.
With a new year already in the making,
Solos, along with the other clubs of the Federation, brought in the new year of
2010 by attending the Federation New Year's Eve Dance hosted by the Tuesday
Rounds. A special thanks to Dick Parrish and Rene Horton for calling and cueing
as the old year of 2009 disappeared. A New Year and a New Decade began. Now is
the time to revive our dance activities. Let's concentrate on getting new
dancers into our clubs and Federation. Solos began a new set of lessons on
January 11, 2010 with18 new dancers. I can*t think of a better way for a club to
begin a New Year than to make new friends and introduce them into the wonderful
world of square dancing. A special thanks to all of the other clubs that came
out opening night to help "angel" our new dancers. Also in January, the Solos
hosted a country western dance as a fundraiser for the club on January 23, 2010.
A lot of two stepping and line dancing was planned for all that attended. At the
time of this writing we do not have the results of that adventure. One of our newest members, Jerry West, is
nursing a knee back to health following surgery. He is doing well now that his
wife Sheila is taking good care of him. The Solos and other dancers of the
Lubbock Federation extend our sympathy to Donna Mize Beavers and the Beavers
family in the sudden passing of Larry Beavers Sunday night, January 17 at his
home with massive heart failure. His funeral was Saturday, January 23 at
Colorado City. Larry was a member of the Solos and a Ranch Host for the National
Ranching Heritage Center. He and Donna were on the Ranch Host Dance team. Mark your calendars for APRIL 17, 2010 for SOLOS 38TH ANNIVERSARY DANCE. The callers will be JON & DEBORAH CARROLL JONES of Arlington. Cuer will be LYNN & DIONICIA MYERS of Midland. The theme will be "DANCING TO NEW HORIZONS". A Special $200 DOOR PRIZE will be given away. Solos will be selling tickets for the drawing soon. Make plans now to attend!
